The mother cat should be feeding the cats not you. If there is no mother cat then you need to feed then from a bottle right away. If you are talking about giving them formula (like milk: as a treat) then any time is fine, just read what the box says.

The mother will produce milk and let the kittens nurse on her.

You only need to feed a kitten if the mother will not nurse it, if the mother is not producing enough milk for all of the kittens, or if one or more kittens will not nurse to get enough food.

Most of the time the mother cat take care of all of the feeding until she decides it is time to wean the kittens off her milk and on to solid food.

Normally, the kittens, as they are being weaned, will eat the same food you are providing for the mother.

When the kittens are being weaned, it is a good idea to make sure that they are getting enough wet and dry food.

If the mother is not around or cannot feed the kittens, you must start feeding them immediately but such an undertaking is quite an effort.

You will need to get kitten replacement formula from a pet store (other stores may also carry it) and get nursing bottles. You must then bottle feed the kittens every 2 to 3 hours around the clock. You can’t skip the night time feedings, you have to set an alarm to wake you up every 2 to 3 hours for feedings.

You’ll have to continue to feed them like this until they are about 6 weeks old and you begin to wean them off the formula and on to solid food.

AS I SAID – the mother should take care of feeding the kittens just fine.

You don’t need to get involved unless one or more kittens are not getting enough to eat.

I strongly suggest you read some web pages about raising kittens.

Here is the first page of a Google search on:
