Adopting a Cat from the Irvine Animal Care Center www.irvineshelter.org

8-year-old Ariana recounts her experience adopting a kitty from the Irvine Animal Care Center in California. (www.irvineshelter.org) Adopting from an animal shelter, especially adopting an adult or older pet, is truly a wonderful thing. These are animals who have been (through no fault of their own) dumped on shelters by irresponsible pet owners who failed to understand that when you bring home a pet, it is for the life of that pet…PERIOD. So these wonderful animals all need a second chance at a happy life in a forever home. Sadly, animal shelters must euthanize millions of perfect pets each and every year because there are not enough good homes. Again, it all boils down to irresponsible pet ownership, allowing pets to reproduce year after year, and not recognizing the impact this has. Please spay or neuter your pets and PLEASE remember that adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. Sure nothing’s wrong with letting your cat outside – if you don’t mind your cat getting into fights with other cats and getting cut up, or being exposed to contagious diseases, or killed by a coyote or a loose dog, or run over by a car, picked up by an animal hoarder or buncher, or…

all cats needs to be adopted in shelters or from a street. It does not matter if a cat is ugly, lame, missing an eye or missing a limb all that matters the most is that cats are getting a home. Pets are not a item for display pets are companions.

What a smart and pretty little girl. I’m with her, I believe cats belong indoors. Too much danger out there. My own kitty was abandoned by her owners. I took her in, and we’ve had 10 wonderful years together so far.

1Mametchi1, I am that girl. It touches me to read all these comments. It especially touched me to read yours, as you have a story too. I hope that guy you saw rots in jail and I know the soul of that kitty will rest peacefully.
    Thank you,

i remember when i got my cat from an animal shelter. i saw he was not being dopted but the rest of his family did. i decided to adopt him since he was alone and scared. he has a good life here at my house. gtttttew (sorry my cat pressed the keyboard)

  14. 1Mametchi1 says:

everyone should be like this girl. once when i was walking home from school, i saw this guy open his door with a 3 week old kitten in his hand. i saw him throw the cat to the road. just when i was about to run on the road and save the cat, a car accidentally ran it over and it died. the owner laughed at the cat as it died. i cried and secretly gave the guy the middle finger. i live near a vet and i took the kitten there where it got buried and luckily the guy got arrested for life and evicted.

I love how you were adult enough to understand everyone wants kittens and you wanted to give a cat a home. God bless you for that. Thats my plan when I get my next cat or dog. Lovely story! The world needs more people like you.

  20. themylky says:

Im so proud of this girl!!! I recently adopted a 8 year old cat myself! and its the best thing i have ever done! his the most loving thing! =]

  21. dharmaseed says:

The mother and father of this sweet little girl should be very proud of their daughter. An eight-year old who walks into a shelter and realizes that older cats are not going to get adopted that easilyis showing understanding and maturity beyond her years. Momo is truly lucky and blessed beyond belief to have this little girl for a caretaker.
